WHAT’S HAPPENING WITH RALPHS BAY, MR LENNON?

written by:SRB Inc.

Is it just possible that the Lennon Government is reassessing its whole approach to the Walker Corporation plan for Ralphs Bay?

Eighteen months after this outlandish canal estate proposal was first foisted upon the Eastern Shore community, the Lennon Government is showing tentative signs of really listening to its constituents on this issue.

Last Monday, no decision out of Cabinet.  Today, nothing either.  From SRB Inc.’s perspective, no news is good news at this stage.

Maybe, just maybe, a democratic process is at work?  Maybe the thousands of Tasmanians who expressed their deep concern in one form or another to their elected representatives, are having an effect?

When the ‘modified’ Walker Corporation proposal was announced on 18 July 2005, Environment Minister, Judy Jackson, said Cabinet would make a decision on the application for Project of State Significance Status ‘in four or five weeks.’

The allocated time is up and every day that passes without a Cabinet decision, is a sure sign the Lennon Government suspects this issue is indeed ‘hot’ in the electorates of Franklin and Denison.
