Report from Hobart Airport - 15km NE of Ralphs Bay
Temperature: 9°C (48°F)On 4 Corners this past Monday night, Chris Masters examined the pressures on West Australia’s coastline and the WA Labor Government’s response. The protective and engaged stance taken by WA Planning Minister, Alannah McTiernan highlighted the glaring deficiencies in our own government’s lack of vision and care for coastal protection.
While the Lennon Government promotes a toxic canal estate against community wishes, the West Australian Government talks about consultation and conciliation, and it puts conservation before profit or exclusive access for the few. Here in Tasmania we share coastal assets equal in beauty though not as vast as the coastline that faces west towards the Indian Ocean, and we should be just as concerned with its protection.
Would that we had Labor Ministers of the calibre and apparent sincerity of Alannah McTiernan with carriage over Ralphs Bay and its threatened Conservation Area.
In an environmentally just and wise Tasmania, Ralphs Bay would not be up for sale to any developer under any circumstances.
