A message from Cassy O’Connor

written by:Cassy O'Connor

Dear friends and supporters of Ralphs Bay

After four and a half years in the job, I am formally signing off as Communications’ Coordinator for SRB Inc. On Monday 21 July, I was elected to the Tasmanian Parliament on a recount following the resignation of Peg Putt.

It is a great privilege to be able to express my total devotion to Tasmania and its people in the Parliament. As the Tasmanian Greens’ Member for Denison, I will remain a passionate advocate for community and conservation, for sustainability, decency and good governance.

I will also continue to stand up for Ralphs Bay. I remain a Ralphie, part of that dedicated group of community members committed to protecting the Bay, its birds, marine life, the River Derwent and Tasmania’s coastline from opportunistic, inappropriate developments such as that proposed by Walker Corporation. Luckily, I have also been given portfolio responsibility for coastal policy!

The Greens’ long-time champion for Ralphs Bay, the Member for Franklin, Nick McKim MHA, will be our primary spokesperson on Ralphs Bay. He also maintains portfolio responsibility for planning matters, and does an outstanding job articulating good planning policy for Tasmania. As the Walker Corporation Project of State Significance (PoSS) is currently before the Resource Planning and Development Commission (RPDC), the assessment falls within Nick’s portfolio.

So, the good news is that Ralphs Bay will continue to have a strong voice in the Parliament via the Greens. Be assured, we will work to all our capacity to bring those Labor and Liberal members who also care about Tasmania’s coastline, along with us, to make sure this spectacular natural asset we all share and enjoy is kept in the best possible shape for our children, and theirs, into the future.

Thank you for all your support over the years. To complete the task of saving Ralphs Bay, SRB Inc. will be counting on your sustained backup in the weeks, months but hopefully not too many more years, ahead.

Warmest wishes
Cassy O’Connor
