On Walker Corp.’s right to on-sell the canal estate:
On the final afternoon of the recent Hearings into the Walker Corporation’s proposed canal estate at Lauderdale, the Walker Corp. lawyer reminded those present that, “the permit will endure forever, no matter who is the developer.”
Ald. Richard James’ bizarre conspiracy theory ("Greens linked to Bay rethink”, 26.9.09) shows he has lost all touch with reality.
In the same article, Lia Morris claims that Walker Corp. has made “consistent” commitments to Clarence ratepayers. This is nonsense.
Ken Skeels (Letters, Aug. 3rd) asks where environmentalists get their information that the majority of people do not want the Ralphs Bay development to proceed.
Recent information could be provided by the Walker Corporation, but they chose not to disclose the results of their survey, in their Draft Integrated Impact Statement (DIIS).
However, there are several other sources of evidence.
Dear Letters Editor,
The Walker Corporation believes $600 000 is a reasonable price tag for the Ralphs Bay Conservation Area at Lauderdale.
In the RPDC hearings currently underway, Walker Corp. has acknowledged the area is a shorebird habitat of International Significance.
Dear friends and supporters of Ralphs Bay
After four and a half years in the job, I am formally signing off as Communications’ Coordinator for SRB Inc. On Monday 21 July, I was elected to the Tasmanian Parliament on a recount following the resignation of Peg Putt.
Driving to work through Lauderdale last Thursday, after navigating around debris deposited by the previous night’s hurricane force winds on to the Ralphs Bay foreshore, I was struck once again by the madness of the canal estate plan we continue to fight.
